The star has handed over the full amount of his £25,000 honor winnings to the Music Venues Trust, which works to save the United Kingdom's grassroots concert spaces.

The star was awarded the cheque on mid-October as his latest record the album was declared the top album of the past year.

Fender has opted to donate the funds to the MVT, in recognition of the vital role local spots had in his beginning days.

"I wouldn't be doing my current career if it hadn't been for all the performances I did around the region, and elsewhere, when I was starting out," remarked Sam Fender. "These spaces are legendary, but they are struggling."

Beginning in 2023, over 150 of these venues have ceased operations – about 16% of the whole industry in the UK.

Over the past year, major artists including the band Pulp, Coldplay, Katy Perry and Ed Sheeran have all aided the trust in its initiatives to support the industry, by applying a small levy to their admission fees, which benefits local stages.

He also participated, raising in excess of £100,000 on his recent tour to help numerous grassroots venues across the UK.

The donation helped spaces that were facing potential shutdown due to difficulties stemming from floods, fire incidents and family tragedies, as well as permit problems, court cases and sound issues.

Some locations received monetary aid in upgrading amenities and technical equipment that positively impacted performers and audiences.

"The notion that revenue from performances in large arenas helps the independent spots, where it kicks off for artists like me, is just logical," Fender has said.

The musician is not the first artist to give his honor winnings to good deeds.

In Pulp received the prize in 1996 for their record Different Class, lead singer Jarvis Cocker stated that the act would donate their prize money to the charity War Child.

During 2002, rapper and singer she shared her prize among a few charities, like the children's charity and a Sickle Cell charity.

"Additionally, I contributed a grand to Highgate Newtown, to their gymnastics program, because I practiced gymnastics when I was a child and they needed better apparatus," Ms Dynamite told outlets.

In recent years, Ezra Collective contributed their prize money to the youth organization that supported their band, as well as other grassroots music organisations.

Also 1994 winners the group gave their award to a charity for MS after a acquaintance was diagnosed the condition.

"Receiving the award was ample," stated artist Small. "The money was the bonus but we didn't require the cherry, because we had the main prize. So our winning affected the lives of others."

In the past week, the trust shared it had saved several grassroots venues in that region, by transferring them to public stewardship.

The Joiners in that area and The Croft in that location were bought under the Own Our Venues initiative, which is funded by a national body and supporters who acquire "ownership units" in the buildings.
