PSG Defeats Marseille via Spot-Kicks to Claim French Season-Opening Trophy in Kuwait.

Trophy celebration scene

PSG has now secured the prestigious cup on fourteen separate times.

The Parisian giants required a stoppage-time equaliser followed by a successful penalty shootout to get past Marseille in the Gulf and capture a fourth straight Trophee des Champions victory.

The European champions seemed to be sailing towards a straightforward win in the match between the French league champions and the French Cup holders after Ousmane Dembele found the net in the opening stages.

Yet, the southern French side fired twice in the closing moments to take a surprise advantage. Initially, Mason Greenwood converted from the penalty spot, before the defender inadvertently directed the ball into his own net for an own goal.

In a remarkable turn of fortune, the Portuguese striker snatched a vital leveler in the final moments to send the match into a penalty shootout. The Parisian shot-stopper Lucas Chevalier then emerged as the hero, stopping decisive kicks from Matt O'Riley and Hamed Traore.

From the spot, Ramos, the midfielder, Nuno Mendes, and the young talent all scored with composure for Paris Saint-Germain to complete a convincing shootout victory.

Now 14-time champions PSG, who faced last season's Ligue 1 second-placed team Marseille after completing a league and cup double, have now won this trophy for the twelfth time in the past thirteen seasons.
